The 2025 AfriLabs Annual Gathering and AL for Health Week brought together Africa’s brightest innovators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers for four inspiring days of learning, collaboration, and connection. Against the vibrant backdrop of Nairobi, the week reaffirmed a powerful truth: Africa’s future is being shaped by its innovators.

Day 1: Visionary voices and bold conversations

The week opened with excitement and anticipation as Anne Ekeledo, Executive Director of AfriLabs, welcomed hundreds of delegates from across the continent. Her keynote, together with remarks from H.E. Yemi Osinbajo, former Vice President of Nigeria, and Ahunna Eziakonwa, UNDP Regional Director for Africa, set an ambitious tone for the gathering.

Under the theme “Catalyzing Investment in Health,” discussions explored how African startups can attract sustainable funding, build strong partnerships, and scale their solutions to make real impact. Speakers emphasized the importance of creating ecosystems that nurture young entrepreneurs and encourage innovation designed for Africa’s unique challenges.

Day 2: Innovation takes the stage

The second day was a celebration of ideas and opportunity. During the Co-Creation 2025 Pitch Competition, emerging founders took the stage to present cutting-edge solutions in healthcare, digital transformation, and community well-being.

A standout moment came when Emmanuel Samwel, founder of Primetel Health, delivered a pitch that impressed both the audience and investors. His idea earned first place and received immediate seed funding, a moment that inspired many in the room. His story became a symbol of what’s possible when young African innovators are given the right platform and support.

Day 3: Learning through experience

Day three took participants out of the conference halls and into Kenya’s thriving innovation ecosystem. Delegates visited AfriLabs partner hubs including Villgro Africa, Qubit Hub, and Aga Khan University. These visits offered a closer look at groundbreaking work happening across healthcare incubation, artificial intelligence, and 3D printing for medical use.

From affordable diagnostic tools to locally developed medical devices, the day revealed just how far African-led innovation has come—and how much potential remains to transform healthcare on the continent.

Day 4: Collaboration and community

The final day brought everyone together for the AL for Health Gathering. It was a chance for participants and partners to reflect, share experiences, and explore opportunities for collaboration. Conversations throughout the day focused on how networks can continue to grow stronger and drive collective impact across borders.

The event closed with a networking lunch filled with laughter, gratitude, and renewed energy. It was the perfect ending to a week that celebrated creativity, resilience, and the spirit of collaboration.
