From a Campus Introduction to an International Internship Placement: Daniel Ageer Dhuor Agerr’s Journey with ACN

For many university students, securing an internship is more than a graduation requirement. It is an opportunity to gain practical experience, explore career possibilities, and begin building the professional networks that can shape their future.

For Daniel Ageer Dhuor Agerr, a Mastercard Foundation Scholar and final-year BSc. Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), finding an industrial attachment was the starting point of a much bigger professional journey.

As a student in the College of Engineering, Daniel was required to complete an industrial attachment to gain practical experience beyond the classroom. While he knew the experience was important, he needed to find an opportunity that would give him meaningful exposure and connect with his broader career interests.

His journey with Africa Career Network (ACN) began during his second year at KNUST, when an ACN Campus Ambassador introduced him to the network.

What initially appeared to be a platform for discovering career opportunities soon became a valuable part of Daniel’s professional development. Through ACN, he participated in the Education Needs All Career Readiness Programme, which helped him become more familiar with the platform and the opportunities available to young professionals across Africa.

His engagement with the network continued to grow. In May, Daniel attended the ACN Regional Career Summit in Accra, where he connected with young changemakers, industry professionals, and employer partners from across the region. The experience gave him the opportunity to expand his professional network, learn from people working in different sectors, and gain greater exposure to the world of work.

These experiences eventually translated into a significant career opportunity.

Through AL for Infrastructure, an opportunity facilitated through ACN, Daniel secured an internship with the World Gold Council, a global organisation headquartered in London. For a student whose initial goal was simply to fulfil an industrial attachment requirement, the opportunity represents a significant step towards building an international professional career.

“My experience with ACN has given me more than just an internship opportunity. It has helped me gain clarity about my career, expand my professional network, and develop a mindset of continuous learning. I have moved from simply looking for an internship to actively exploring opportunities that align with my skills, interests, and aspirations. ” Daniel shared.

His journey also reflects the value of connecting young people to the right networks at the right stage of their careers. From a campus introduction to a career-readiness programme, a regional summit, and ultimately an international internship, each opportunity contributed to Daniel’s professional growth.

Today, Daniel encourages fellow scholars and students to make the most of platforms such as ACN and to actively seek out the opportunities available to them.
