Some leaders build careers. Others build systems, industries, and futures. Kidus Mersha Alemayehu, an Ethiopian professional with nearly a decade of impact across healthcare, sustainability, and responsible innovation, is firmly in the second category.
As an inaugural graduate of the African Leadership Academy and a committed member of the AL for Health Network, Kidus represents a new generation of African changemakers: technically rigorous, deeply principled, and driven by a long-term vision for the continent. His work sits at the intersection of healthcare technology, infrastructure development, and green innovation, all essential pillars for Africa’s next chapter.
Last month, Kidus attended the AfriLabs Gathering in Kenya, further expanding his reach in the continent’s innovation ecosystem and strengthening collaborations that align with his mission: building a healthier, more sustainable Africa.
From GE to Roha: Strengthening Africa’s Healthcare Backbone
Kidus began his career with General Electric (GE), where he managed complex healthcare technology installations across East Africa. From diagnostic imaging systems to large-scale infrastructure upgrades, his work ensured that hospitals across the region gained access to reliable, modern medical technology.
These installations weren’t merely equipment placements, they were lifelines. They strengthened hospital capacity, improved diagnostic accuracy, and expanded access to quality healthcare services in communities that needed it most.
Transforming Healthcare Infrastructure at Roha Medical Campus

For the last 4.5 years, Kidus has played a critical role at Roha Health, part of the Roha Group, an investment firm known for building sustainable companies across Africa.
Today, he serves as the Commercial Project Manager for the Roha Medical Campus, one of the most ambitious healthcare infrastructure projects on the continent. This advanced multi-specialty hospital, now under development in Ethiopia, aims to deliver world-class care locally, reducing medical tourism, elevating clinical standards, and transforming how specialized services are accessed.
Through his leadership in procurement, contract negotiation, strategic partnerships, and complex project management, Kidus is helping to redefine what healthcare excellence looks like in Africa.
A Commitment to a Greener, More Responsible Future
Beyond healthcare, Kidus brings his leadership to sustainable manufacturing and environmental responsibility. He is part of an initiative producing eco-friendly paper bags using green energy, a project aligned with Ethiopia’s vision for sustainable industrialization and reduced plastic waste.
This work underscores a consistent theme in Kidus’s career: impact with integrity. Whether he is improving medical infrastructure or advancing renewable-energy-powered manufacturing, his approach remains grounded in responsibility, innovation, and long-term continental development.
A Leader Guided by Purpose
Kidus represents exactly what the AL for Health Network stands for — leaders who combine technical expertise, strategic insight, and a deep commitment to serving their communities. His journey from ALA to the frontlines of healthcare development embodies the power of African leadership rising to meet Africa’s challenges.
As he continues shaping Ethiopia’s healthcare and sustainability landscape, Kidus reminds us of what’s possible when purpose-driven leadership meets bold, transformative action.
We proudly celebrate Kidus Mersha for his contributions, his vision, and his ongoing
commitment to building a healthier, more sustainable Africa.
