Driving Placement Impact through Local Employer Partnerships: OneWorld Benin

In Benin, meaningful career opportunities for young people are increasingly being shaped not only by training programs but by strong local partnerships that bridge talent with industry. Through its growing network of more than twenty employer partners, OneWorld Benin (OWB), a member of the ACN Affiliate Program, is turning collaboration into tangible career pathways for Mastercard Foundation Scholars and Alumni.
OneWorld Benin’s approach is simple yet powerful: opportunity expands when institutions and employers work together with intention. By cultivating trusted relationships with local businesses, OWB has created direct pathways into employment and professional growth. Recently, seven alumni secured internships through these partnerships, gaining not only workplace experience but also mentorship and coaching that strengthened their transition into the professional world.
Turning Potential into Opportunity

Among them was Amélie, an alumna whose journey reflects the deeper impact of OWB’s initiatives. After participating in the Business Academy Challenge, she refined her business model and strengthened her pitching abilities through intensive training and mentorship. What began as an entrepreneurial learning experience evolved into a real opportunity. Amélie secured an internship with a local agri-business startup, where she applied her newly developed skills while simultaneously nurturing her own venture focused on value-added cassava products.
“The pitch training and mentoring changed my confidence,” Amélie shared. “I now understand how to tell my story and create solutions that matter.”
Her story illustrates how targeted support can unlock both employment and entrepreneurship pathways, empowering young people not only to seek jobs, but to create them.
Expanding Impact Through Partnership and Mentorship
The impact extends beyond placements. Several employer partners voluntarily dedicated their time to entrepreneurship coaching, demonstrating that collaboration can evolve into long-term investment in youth potential. These relationships are fostering an ecosystem where employers become mentors, partners, and champions of emerging talent.
Through sustained engagement with local industry, OneWorld Benin is helping redefine career development across the country proving that when networks are built on trust and shared purpose, they create lasting opportunities. For young people in Benin, these partnerships are not just opening doors; they are building futures grounded in confidence, skills, and possibility.
