She understood the desire to create solutions but struggled to find a practical pathway that could translate ideas into tangible impact. That turning point came when she joined the AL for the Infrastructure Sustainable Urbanisation Working Group. This opportunity offered what had long been missing: mentorship, structure, and the confidence to begin, marking a defining chapter in his personal and professional growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turning Collaboration into Innovation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within the working group, Farai encountered the power of interdisciplinary thinking. Diverse perspectives challenged assumptions and sharpened the team\u2019s ability to design solutions grounded in feasibility and community relevance. This collective process gave birth to <strong>PlastiCity<\/strong>, an initiative that converts plastic waste into durable, affordable paving bricks for construction. Leading the project required Farai to structure teams across supply chain management, communications, and technical development, cultivating accountability while strengthening his own strategic coordination skills. Through market research, prototyping, and testing, she learned that impactful innovation is less about individual brilliance and more about systems built through shared ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Leadership Forged Through Challenge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leading the project required Farai to step into unfamiliar territory. Navigating the team\u2019s natural progression through moments of uncertainty and alignment taught her that leadership is not control but stewardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBefore this experience, I thought leadership meant having answers,\u201d Farai reflects. \u201cI learned that true leadership begins with learning how to guide people through uncertainty, including yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These lessons strengthened her professional confidence, shaping her into a more intentional collaborator and emerging leader within the sustainable infrastructure space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turning Experimentation into Career Momentum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most transformative moment came during the prototype phase, when Farai and her team developed and tested 30 different brick formulations to assess durability and practicality. Completing their first homestead pathway installation marked more than technical success; it affirmed that persistence can convert experimentation into real community impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project\u2019s progress led to additional support through the <strong>Mastercard FAST Idea Program<\/strong>, opening new pathways for scaling PlastiCity and refining its production processes. For Farai, this milestone signalled a shift from exploration to career direction. Entrepreneurship was no longer an abstract interest; it had become a lived professional identity grounded in sustainability, systems thinking, and urban innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, her journey reflects a deeper understanding that meaningful infrastructure solutions are built slowly, through collaboration, resilience, and trust in the process.
