Paul’s Journey: From Data Analytics to Driving Digital Transformation with Green Bio Energy

When Paul Lemaron first came across Konexio Africa on LinkedIn, he was immediately drawn to the idea of bridging the digital skills gap in Africa. A Mastercard Foundation Scholar from Kenya, Paul has a background in Computer Science and a specialization in Data Analytics. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Computing in Education at the American University of Beirut, where he will graduate in December 2025.Â
Paul’s story begins in Kajiado County, Kenya, where he grew up as part of the Maasai pastoral community. Raised in a family of 28 siblings, he is among the very few who have pursued higher education and proudly represents the first generation in his family to attend university.
From humble beginnings at Maparasha Primary School, Paul’s academic excellence earned him a place at Olkejuado High School. There, he was selected to participate in the U.S. State Department’s AFS foreign exchange program and spent a year at Vernonia High School in Oregon, USA. It was a transformative experience: his first time sleeping on a mattress rather than a cow-hide, and his first glimpse into the wider world of opportunity.
Returning to Kenya, Paul pursued a degree in Computer Science, graduating in the top 1% of his class. His path eventually led him to become a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the American University of Beirut. Through the Scholars Program and the Africa Career Networks, he discovered Konexio Africa.
After engaging in Konexio Africa’s High Skills Digital Inclusion Program, where he sharpened his soft skills, Paul was selected to participate in the Green Bio Energy Sector Challenge — an eight-week consulting-style project connecting Scholars with real-world business problems.Â

Taking the Lead in the Challenge
From the outset, Paul stepped into a leadership role within his team of four Scholars. Drawing on his professional experience, he guided the group toward practical, business-oriented solutions rather than purely academic ones. The challenge? Support Green Bio Energy (GBE), a clean energy company in Uganda, to explore digital transformation strategies. Specifically, the team needed to help GBE evolve from a B2B to a B2C model while strengthening its core operations. Paul’s approach was simple but powerful: “Start where you are, don’t start from scratch.â€
The team’s roadmap included:
â— Leveraging existing B2B strengths to complement B2C expansion,
â— Proposing a CRM system for better customer relationships,
â— Designing a digital marketing strategy to reach new markets,
â— Using data-driven tools like PowerBI, Python, and Excel for operational insight
â— Applying proven business strategies such as ITIL 4 framework and Lean Six Sigma.Â
To manage information overload, Paul introduced NotebookLM, an AI-powered platform for processing documents and extracting insights, which streamlined the team’s collaboration alongside Google Drive.
Growth Through Mentorship and Collaboration
The Sector Challenge wasn’t just about business frameworks, it was about growth. With guidance from an experienced mentor, Paul and his team adopted agile methodologies, improved their storytelling for the final pitch, and learned to balance vision with feasibility.
For Paul, the experience was transformative:
â— Confidence: Delivering the winning pitch boosted his belief in his ability to drive business solutions.
â— Collaboration: Working across disciplines and cultures taught him how to harness diverse perspectives.
â— Practical Impact: His data insights helped GBE rethink its operations and strengthen its digital transformation journey.
Ziwa, GBE’s representative, was so impressed that he invited Paul to join their advisory board committee for a year-long fellowship.
Looking Ahead
Beyond the challenge, Paul is charting a bold path forward. He has already developed a data analytics curriculum and is building doable.co.ke, an online platform that blends data training, digital marketing, and business strategy. His ambition is clear: to launch a digital strategy agency that helps businesses thrive in today’s fast-changing economy, while continuing to contribute to online education and digital inclusion in Africa.Â
For Paul, the Sector Challenge wasn’t just about winning. As he reflects:
“It opened my entrepreneurial mindset and gave me the confidence to start my own business.â€
