Mitsubishi Corporation business is heavily shaped by the values of integrity and fairness. This has enabled the corporation to expand far beyond its traditional trading operations to include project development, production, and manufacturing operations, working in collaboration with various partners around the globe. Driven by the three central aims, Mitsubishi Corporation works towards environmental conservation, environmental education, and poverty alleviation. This work has been pursued for over 30 years by the Mitsubishi Corporation Fund for Europe and Africa with many programs and initiatives stemming from them. MCFEA is a charitable foundation established in 1992 and has created many array partnerships in both Europe and Africa, by supporting innovative projects that align with the objectives of sustainability.
In October 2021, Mitsubishi Corporation announced its Roadmap to a Carbon Neutral Society, where it laid out its goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and established an integrated energy transformation/digital transformation initiative to create a new future as a company-wide theme for business development. In recent decades, global sustainability has emerged as a critical responsibility for many big corporations. Mitsubishi Corporation appreciates this as it aims to generate societal and environmental value by addressing key sustainability issues through its wide-ranging business and industrial activities.
Mitsubishi Corporation and the AL for Infrastructure share several philosophies and principles including striving to enrich and grow our societies while contributing towards the preservation of the global environment and advocating and maintaining principles of integrity in business and leadership. We are therefore excited to announce a partnership to run a Design and Innovation Challenge with Mitsubishi Corporation to find innovative carbon capture technologies that can maximize the carbon in the soil while maximizing yield, improving nutrition, and improving biodiversity.
The Carbon Capture Technologies Design and Innovation Challenge with Mitsubishi Corporation presents yet another opportunity for young leaders within the network to research an innovate with sustainability in mind, much in line with current trends to mitigate the effects of global emissions and improve climate resilience. This also aligns with our ambition to create green infrastructure on the continent and the opportunity will provide our network members with a platform to learn from one of the world’s leading climate conscious conglomerates. The Mitsubishi Corporation team will provide mentorship and guidance to the network members who will be engaged in the challenge and we urge young leaders to apply and utilize this opportunity to collaborate, learn, and develop new ways that farmers can use to improve the amount of carbon captured in the fields and potentially increase the carbon credits market in Africa. To participate in the ten-weeks challenge, please apply through the ACN portal by clicking on this link.
Winners of the Design and Innovation Challenge stand a chance of winning up to $10,000 in prize money, and will travel to present their winning solution at the ALA Networks Gathering in Nairobi in November 2023 where they will get to interact with members of the Mitsubishi team as well as other event participants.
