As part of our ongoing efforts to connect our members with career opportunities across Africa, Wilfrid Ahouansou, our Program Manager for University Engagement & Partnerships, recently organized a visit to Université Gaston Berger in Senegal. During the visit, he had the opportunity to meet with the Rector, Professor Magatte Ndiaye, the Director of Professional Integration and Community Service, and other university officials. Discussions focused on the crucial mission of supporting graduate employment, an essential measure of the university’s external effectiveness.
One of the key takeaways from the visit was the growing demand for skilled professionals in sectors such as agriculture, technology, and renewable energy. Rector Ndiaye emphasized that the success of a university hinges on both its internal and external effectiveness. While internal factors relate to student life and study conditions, external factors focus on employability and graduates’ ability to reinvest their skills into the economy. UGB’s establishment of the Conseil d’Orientation et des Relations avec les Milieux Économiques (CORME) showcases its pioneering role in West Africa. Alongside the university’s Insertion Department and its incubator, this organization exemplifies UGB’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with essential technical and interpersonal skills.
Various initiatives were designed to ensure that every UGB student receives high-quality support to enhance their employability.
Through these strategic actions, UGB continues to strengthen its position as a leader in higher education in West Africa. By focusing on both the internal and external aspects of university effectiveness, UGB is paving the way for a future where its graduates are exceptionally prepared to meet the demands of the global economy and reinvest their skills for broader societal benefit.
