The programme brought together young African women leaders from different sectors for a week of practical leadership development, reflection, peer learning, and engagement with experienced leaders and facilitators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Boot Camp covered a range of themes, including self-leadership, transformative and ethical leadership, communication, stakeholder management, adaptability, resilience, influence, and leading through uncertainty. For me, the value of the programme was not simply in acquiring new leadership concepts, but in being challenged to examine how I currently lead and where I need to improve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Learnings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_3016-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17862\" srcset=\"https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_3016-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_3016-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_3016-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_3016-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_3016-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_3016-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of my strongest takeaways was that <strong>leadership starts with the ability to lead yourself<\/strong>. The sessions encouraged us to examine our identity, values, limiting beliefs, and the stories we tell ourselves. I was particularly challenged to question whether some of the things I consider limitations are actually limitations, or simply fears that I have become accustomed to treating as facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The programme also challenged my understanding of what effective leadership looks like. Leadership is increasingly less about having all the answers or relying on authority, and more about developing people, building influence, asking better questions, and creating conditions for collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also found the discussions around communication and stakeholder management particularly relevant. Maintaining leadership requires relationships, understanding different interests, and communicating effectively with people who may not share the same perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another important lesson was around <strong>courage and confidence<\/strong>. I took away the idea that confidence does not always come first. Sometimes the process is <strong>doubt \u2192 courage \u2192 confidence<\/strong>. Acting despite uncertainty is part of developing confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, the programme reinforced the importance of knowing when to adapt or pivot. Good leadership does not mean being rigidly committed to one approach. It means being clear about the objective while remaining willing to change the method when circumstances require it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Personal Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Boot Camp made me reflect on the kind of leader I currently am and the kind of leader I want to become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I recognised that some of my own development areas are quite practical. I need to improve the way I communicate, become more confident in expressing my ideas, and be more deliberate about building relationships and influence. I also need to become better at acting on opportunities rather than allowing uncertainty or the fear of not being ready to delay me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, I left with greater clarity about the leadership qualities I value. I want my leadership to be associated with integrity, accountability, hard work, responsibility, authenticity, and impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The question that stayed with me throughout the programme was not simply, <strong>\u201cWhat do I want to achieve?\u201d<\/strong>, but <strong>\u201cWho am I becoming while I pursue it?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, that is an important distinction, particularly as I continue building a career in leadership, public service, and governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I Will Do Differently<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_4355-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17863\" srcset=\"https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_4355-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_4355-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_4355-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_4355-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_4355-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/careernetworks.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG_4355-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the Boot Camp, I intend to focus on three areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Communication: <\/strong>Become more intentional and confident in how I communicate, particularly when speaking publicly, influencing others, or advocating for an idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Relationship and Influence<\/strong>: Invest more deliberately in my professional relationships and stakeholder networks rather than viewing networking simply as an exchange of contacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Personal Accountability<\/strong>: Be more disciplined about identifying areas where I need to grow and taking action rather than waiting until I feel completely ready or confident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Comes Next<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The physical Boot Camp is only one stage of the Leadership Accelerator Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Capstone Project | 17\u201331 August 2026<\/strong>: The next stage is the Capstone Project, where participants will work in groups to apply the lessons from the Boot Camp to a real challenge, opportunity, or idea. This will be an important opportunity to move from learning to implementation and to test our ability to collaborate, solve problems, and deliver results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mentorship | September\u2013November 2026:<\/strong> Upon successful completion of the Capstone, the programme will progress into a three-month Mentorship Phase. This will provide an opportunity to learn directly from an experienced leader, seek guidance, and gain perspective as I consider my next professional and leadership steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Nairobi Boot Camp gave me an opportunity to step outside my normal environment and critically examine my approach to leadership. I gained practical insights into communication, influence, self-leadership, adaptability, and ethical decision-making, while also identifying areas where I need to improve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next test is whether I can translate these lessons into behaviour.
