Challenge! Over eight weeks, ten brilliant teams rolled up their sleeves to tackle one of
Africa\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s toughest financial hurdles: helping businesses embrace Sava Africa\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s
cutting-edge spend management tools. The energy, creativity, and sheer determination
we witnessed were nothing short of inspiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Heart of the Challenge<\/strong>
Imagine being a small business owner in Nairobi or Lagos, juggling expenses, payroll,
and cash flow\u00e2\u20ac\u201dall while trying to grow. Now imagine a tool that could simplify all of
that, but few know about it or trust it. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the gap our participants were asked to
bridge. Their mission? To design strategies that make Sava\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s platform not just visible
but irresistible to businesses across the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From brainstorming sessions to late-night Zoom calls, these teams dug deep. They
asked:
\u00e2\u2014\u008f How do we make fintech feel approachable to a shop owner in Kampala?
\u00e2\u2014\u008f What kind of training would actually stick for busy entrepreneurs?
\u00e2\u2014\u008f How can we turn skepticism into excitement?
The answers they came up with were as diverse as Africa itself\u00e2\u20ac\u201dranging gamified
learning apps to grassroots workshops led by local influencers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Journey: Highs, Lows, and Breakthroughs<\/strong>
\u00e2\u2014\u008f Week 1\u00e2\u20ac\u201c4: The “aha” moments began early. Teams bonded over shared
frustrations (like unreliable internet during coaching calls!) and celebrated small
wins, like nailing their first pitch drafts.
\u00e2\u2014\u008f Week 5\u00e2\u20ac\u201c7: The pressure cranked up as the semi-finals loomed. Five teams
advanced, but as one eliminated participant put it, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t lose\u00e2\u20ac\u201dwe just ran out
of time to prove our idea.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
\u00e2\u2014\u008f Grand Finale (April 25): The top five teams faced a panel of judges with nerves of
steel. One standout moment? When Pamoja Squad used a live demo to show
how their strategy could cut a business\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s expense-tracking time by half. The
room erupted in applause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Real Win: Lasting Impact<\/strong>
Beyond the $3,000 prize, the true victory lies in what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s happening after the challenge:
\u00e2\u2014\u008f 3,000+ SMEs have already been introduced to Sava\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s tools through pilot
programs.
\u00e2\u2014\u008f Alumni like Janet Alinda (Team Innovisionaries) are now mentoring next year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s
participants, passing the torch.
